Of course, there is the classic liberal perspective that a vast public sector funded by high tax levels can make citizens dependent on the government, leading to laziness and diminishing the motivation to strive for success. Furthermore, the entire premise of this societal model also relies on trusting that the state manages people's hard-earned money properly. However, there have been cases where the government has either misappropriated tax revenues or spent them very ineffectively, eroding trust and the willingness to willingly contribute to the community. There can also be debates at times about whether the money is used most effectively in the hands of the public sector, as, in many instances, significant sums are allocated to bureaucracy instead of direct services such as nursing homes, hospitals, mental health services, and so forth.
